The Entourage Effect

The entourage effect is a reference to the fact that the various compenents of cannabis sometimes work together in a synergistic manner in order to produce a beneficial effect that is greater than that obtained from any of its individual parts. For example, the cannabinoid CBD ameliorates and modifies the effects of THC in order to produce a more pleasant state of consciousness. With very high doses of THC and very little CBD, the result, though, is sometimes anxiety and paranoia as the THC tickles the fear-or-flight response located in the amygdala portion of the brain. For this reason, even though I truly want research to develop non-psychoactive pills for treating specific conditions, the whole plant is, nevertheless, sometimes a better treatment than a single, isolated cannabinoid. Below for your enjoyment are a couple of articles and a video on the entourage effect.
